Feeling Fancy? ~ Fancy Flamingoes with Silly Old Sea Dog

It’s funny how something as simple as altering your hair colour can change your wardrobe preferences. As a redhead, I wore a LOT of green and most of my wardrobe was strong bold colours! Since transitioning to blonde, my wardrobe has incorporated more pastels than I care to admit, as I absolutely adore how they play to my blonde locks now. I’m also an big fan of small businesses, especially being a small business owner myself! So when I was contacted about collaborating with Silly Old Sea Dog I was beyond excited to share their amazing business with you all!

Scarf ~ Baby Blue Scarf from Daisy Jean Floral Designs
Earrings ~ Ambers Mod Hoops in bright blue from Daisy Jean Floral Designs
Neclkace ~ Pastel Pink beads from Debstar Designs
Brooch ~ Audrey's Pastel Princess Brooch from Daisy Jean Floral Designs
Dress ~ 1950's Style Flamingo Dress from Silly Old Sea Dog
Shoes ~ White no brand sandals
Silly Old Sea Dog is an amazing small business hailing from England. One thing that caught my eye about Silly Old Sea Dog is that they identify as a body positive brand (something I strongly believe in) and carry their sizes from a UK size 6 right through to a size 24. They make appearences at Clothes Show Live, Viva Las Vegas, Paris Plus Size Fashion Week, other vintage events as well as being a monthly contributor to Vintage Life Magazine. With all their designs made in their small factory in Scotland, they are completely made in the UK. We settled on the 1950's Style Flamingo Dress for me to share with you all and it is honestly such a stunning dress I instantly fell in love!

Shipping to Australia took around 2 weeks, which is fairly standard for most postage to Australia from anywhere outside out our down under. Made of 100% cotton, this gorgeous dress features a mint body and base with flamingos bordered around the skirt. Despite having sleeves to just above the elbow, this dress is still incredibly cool to wear in warm weather, thanks to its cotton fabric. I got the size 14, which is a little loose through the waist but a fit everywhere else (for me this isn't anything new with fit). Another thing to note is that it was also a comfortable fit on my arms, which is also wonderful! There is nothing worse than a dress fitting everywhere except your arms. Length wise, its a little short than I normally wear but in summer I'm  sure this will be a welcome change, if Sydney Australia's last summer was anything to go off.

I love the fun pastels in this dress and I'm so excited for our recent cool snap to pass so I can bust this beauty out. As I also have two Flamingo brooches I already have some different outfits to wear this gorgeous dress with! Silly Old Sea Dog Dresses are also lined through the bodice as well for a more comfortable fit. A back zip for easy wear and I can get myself in and out of this dress, which is something I like as it means I can wear it on days my partner works without any issues. While now days I don't wear petticoats that much anymore (they aren't allowed at my job) Silly Old Sea Dog do sell petticoats that will fit under their gorgeous dresses.

I've teamed up with Silly Old Sea Dog to give all my readers a 20% off coupon code, which is valid til 19th November 2016! Simply use Coupon CURVECREATION to add some Silly Old Sea Dog to your own wardrobe! They also have some gorgeous Christmas dresses available at the moment too!

I hope you've all enjoyed this post, even if my blog didn't post it when I scheduled it! I've got some wonderful stuff coming for you all this week!

Til then

Marilyn Magic with Royal Vintage Shoes

In 2016 I've had to absolute privilege of being a brand ambassador for Royal Vintage Shoes, the store run and operated by the lovely Lauren. This store stocks an array of amazing shoes which are inspired by the 1920's through to the 1940's. Her service is amazing and her stock wonderful! So you can imagine my excitement when she begun releasing sneak peaks of her first collection of Royal Vintage Shoes, of her own design and make. These incredible shoes are all inspired by iconic shoes of the 1940s and I knew instantly that I had to share my favorites with you all!

The Marilyn Pumps in red are inspired by heels worn by the amazing woman herself. As I delve back into wanting to wear wiggle styles more, I knew these pumps would be perfect to give a Marilyn feel to my outfits.

The Marilyn Pumps are the perfect heel for everyday life to evening wearTheir classic cut makes them comfortable without compromising style and the heel is high enough be evening appropriate. I personally love the V style cut across the top. I think it’s such a simple way of adding some elegance to the shoe and I love how this shape gives shape to my legs.

Sizing on these beautiful heels does run half a size big for someone with relatively ‘standard’ shaped feet. I found that as the front of my foot is quite wide across the bottom (just up from where my toes are), I wouldn’t have been able to size down comfortably. They are a teeny bit long for me but its nothing a simple gel insert couldn’t fix.  These shoes are leather, so will stretch a little once broken in and are incredibly comfortable to wear. They have good arch support and I didn’t have any blistering when breaking these in, even though I didn’t wear stockings.

I love the authentic feel these shoes bring to an outfit. The design is incredibly versatile as well. I can swap it from my ‘true vintage’ looks across to my mainstream pinup looks like this. For ladies who aren’t feeling the red, these amazing pumps also come in black!
For a first release of a new brand, these are absolutely incredible. Lauren’s attention to detail is amazing, especially when noting the reference to old photos. I am so in love with my Marilyn pumps and I cannot wait to share the other amazing styles that I’m loving from the first release by Royal Vintage!

The amazing Marilyn Pumps retail for $150US but I can absolutely promise the quality is worth it. For comfort they are incredible! Royal Vintage Shoes ships worldwide with tracking and I almost always have my shoes the week following my order. Customer service is always A+ with Lauren!

I hope you've enjoyed this blog post and I cannot wait to share the other styles I love with you all!

Autumn Hues with Karina Dresses

Darlings, I think I'm in denial. Spring is quickly coming to Sydney Australia (though we are experiencing a slight cold snap atm) and while spring this year is proving lovely, spring is the prelude to summer and summer here is well: hot. Last summer was one of the hottest on record for Sydney and as someone who is very sensitive to heat (low bloods pressure and sensitive skin wise) I’m honestly not looking forward to it, part of me wishes it would stay just slightly warm like it has been before the cold snap, but I don’t think I’m in luck. I’ve noticed that my denial seems to be shining through in some of my outfits lately and this stunning Karina Dress was no exception.

Hat ~ 1940's Vintage from Etsy
Flowers ~ Orange Double from Daisy Jean Floral Designs
Earrings ~ Horseshoe earrings from Luxulite
Brooch ~ Howling at the moon brooch from Erstwilder
Gloves ~ Vintage
Dress ~ Megan Dress in Autumn Garden from Karina Dresses
Belt ~ Kmart
Shoes ~ Peggy shoes in brown from Royal Vintage Shoes
When I saw the Megan dress in autumn garden, I knew I had to make it mine. Karina dresses have been releasing some incredible patterns this year and this one is truly no exception. It has such a vintage feel to it and I was delighted to hear from my mum she had found a very similar print in a true vintage fabric she'd picked up recently. It really doesn't' get any better than that! The vibrancy of the reds and oranges really isn't done justice in photos, in person it just pops and it is definitely my new favorite print: I've been working very hard to NOT overwear this outfit.

For the first time since I begun working with Karina Dresses, I opted to size down. Previously all my dresses have been a size M/L but they were out of this print in that size, so I opted for the S/M. I was incredibly surprised and delighted that this size fit me better. I'm quite petite and rounded in my shoulders and my upper body is considerably smaller than my lower half so I was delighted. The stretch in Karina dresses means my bigger hips aren't an issue and I love how much it further accentuated my waist. This is my second Megan dress and I love this style just as much as the first. Its got such a 1940's feel with the right styling.

For those who aren't familiar with this amazing brand, they make a range of different dress styling in an array of different patterns. Two features I absolutely love about Karina Dresses are their iron free design (the fabric is crease free) and the fact the fabric breathes incredibly well! As a gal with sensitive skin fabrics that don't breath are a massive problem for me as my skin is sensitive to heat. I am so excited to have amazing dresses I can wear on the really hot days in Sydney Australia this coming summer without fear of angry skin. These dresses also look incredible with or without foundations, which is something I find super important. It makes it a versatile dress of either a dressed down day or a dressed up.

My favorite way to accessorise this dress at the moment is to play to the orange and maroon tones throughout. I discovered when it arrived that it perfectly matched my true vintage 1940's beret and gloves. I added an orange Daisy Jean double for a bright pop of colour, red beads to match the beret and gold horseshoe earrings with a base as a softer accessory to help tie it together. I opped to a neutral brooch of white and I love this brooch I snapped up from Erstwilder in 2014. The pearl of the moon was perfect and brown of the wolf ties to my sunglasses, belt and shoes. These shoes are honestly just incredible and I'm loving styling them at the moment! From Royal Vintage Shoes first collection, keep your eyes peeled for my review of these very soon!

The Megan Dress in Autumn Garden retails for $108USD which is around $141AUD, exchange rate depending. They do ship internationally and I am excited to see what else they bring out over the coming months! If you are after work friendly, comfortable designs with fun prints, Karina Dresses is a brand to consider!

I hope you've all enjoyed this post dolls!

Pink Princess Curves with Honey L'Amour

As a small business owner myself, I'm always on the look out for other small businesses whose stuff I love. Its always so fun to see what other artistic minds create and I love incorporating other people's gorgeous pieces into my wardrobe! When I was contacted by New Zealand based brand Honey L'Amour about trying one of her Princess Blouses, I knew I needed a skirt to match! So I bought this stunning wiggle skirt in soft floral which Honey L'Amour sent me a sneak peak of!

Flowers ~ Red Rose Double from Daisy Jean Floral Designs
Earrings ~ Vienna Earrings in Silver
Top ~ Princess Blouse in Pink from Honey L'Amour
Belt ~ Hell bunny Belt in Lilac from Gwynnies
Skirt ~ Floral Wiggle Skirt from Honey L'Amour
Shoes ~ Marilyn Pumps in Red from Royal Vintage Shoes
Honey L'Amour is a New Zealand based brand, made by the gorgeous Honey L'Amour herself. An amazingly talented pinup who has modelled, performed in cabaret and burlesque, she's also a singer, artist, hair stylist, makeup artist and fashion designer. With a long history in the pinup scene in NZ, she now brings her amazing fashions that are bright, bold and fun for any pinup. She also recently created an amazing Disney Princess Inspired Range recently that you should totally check out!

I've been on the hunt for quite a while for the perfect pale pink top and I am absolutely in love with this one. The Princess Blouse is incredibly comfortable. The Princess Blouse features a bottom back zip for easy wear and elastic around the arms and bust to help keep it in place. The gathered bust gives a beautiful sweetheart neckline that gives this blouse a beautiful softness and femininity.

This top also sits beautifully around the bust, which as a smaller busted girl I can appreciate. It helps give my bust a more defined shape, which helps balance out my figure. I'm wearing the size large, which fits beautifully. The elastic has enough hold that I can wear it on my shoulders or off like in these photos. The fabric is 100% cotton, which as someone with sensitive skin means it allows my skin to breath and is perfect for summer when Australia gets very humid and hot.

The skirt is a masterpiece in its own right! In later 2016 I decided I wanted to try and embrace my pear shaped figure more by wearing wiggle styles more. This skirt, made of cotton satin is just as beautiful to wear as the Princess Top. Comfortable to wear, this skirt was made to measure and is a beautiful fit. The fabric is a stunning pale pink with dark red, soft blue and gold flowers. This skirt features a pink box pleat for a modest wear, which for a corporate pinup like me is incredibly important. Due to being cotton satin is does crease a little after sitting (sadly part of my job) but I honestly don't mind as there few few firm fabrics that don't crease with sitting.

This skirt's varying fabric makes it such a versatile piece, just like the Princess Blouse. It features a back zip with a comfortable waistband for easy wear. For this shoot I teamed this look with a lilac accent in the belt, silver earrings and red shoes and a flower: all playing into the patterns in the skirt fabric. This skirt is coming to the Honey L'Amour store very soon so keep your eyes peeled to snatch one up!

The Princess Blouse comes in Black, Pastel Lilac, Pastel Pink and Pastel Blue and retails for $95NZ dollars + postage. I definitely recommend checking out this amazing small business. She's been an absolute pleasure to deal with and her products are so beautifully made and high quality.

I hope you've all enjoyed this blog post darlings! I've got some super exciting stuff coming between now and the end of the year so keep your eyes peeled!

Tiki Magic with Pinup Girl Clothing

We all know I love tiki. I think it comes from my love of the beach growing up. While I don’t get there anywhere near as much as I used to (thanks to adult life of work and running a small business) I still love sun, surf and water. I guess for me tiki is almost the pinup equivalent of celebrating things I love. Now I was unlucky enough to miss out on the amazing parrot tiki pants in PUG’s last tiki capsule and when I saw the awesome print of this releases trousers, like HELL I was missing out a second time. I parted ways with some things I hadn’t worn in forever and snapped myself up the HighWaisted Trousers in orange tiki print and the Harley top in Orange

Scarf ~ Baby Blue Nylon Scarf from Daisy Jean Floral Designs
Hoops ~ Hollywood Hoops from Retro Resins
Brooch ~ Large Dew Drops brooch from Dottie Delite
Top ~ Orange Harley top from Pinup Girl Clothing
Pants ~ High Waisted Trousers in Orange Tiki Print from Pinup Girl Clothing
Shoes ~ Wooden Tiki mules by Pinup Couture (bought on ebay)

I was beyond excited when my parcel arrived just 3 days after placing my order. The speed of Fedex boggles my mind sometimes (I’m using to dealing with Australia Post) and the colours in the print were even prettier in person. The orange was definitely a great match, though I was originally a bit hesitant about the orange Harley due to not being sure I could style it with more (seemy how I styled it post here!).  The first thing I noticed, was that despite going off the size chart and getting the Large,  I was going to have the same issue with the Harley top as I had all those moons ago when I tried on a Harley dress: my shoulders are too small. While it fit me well on my waist, it was slightly too big in the bust and the shoulder section actually sat above my shoulders slightly as oppose to sitting on them (I really pulled and pulled it down to get it to sit right for this shoot, but it made it bunch around my waist).

Thankfully, this isn’t too big of an issue, my super padded bra did help with the bust size but I doubt I’ll buy another Harley top outside of this one. Its sad, they are great tops but I’m finding more and more that as a small busted gal with a bigger bottom half, there are some styles that are difficult on my shape. This is one of them. As I have similar issues with peasant tops (my shoulders are very rounded which means peasant tops end up halfway down my arms, making them not appropriate for a job that requires covered shoulders) so I picked a lesser of two evils. At least I don't have to worry about straps or sleeves sliding down on this one!

So body size/fit issues aside, this top is beautifully made. The straps are thick and can take a bit of strain for the bigger busted gals. Its lined and features a back zip for easy and comfortable wear. Because of my bigger hips, I do find the zip bunches a little at the bottom but it’s nothing major. The colour is super vibrant in person and is definitely more versatile than I initially expected. I’d recommend sizing up if you are between sizes though, as there isn’t much stretch in the fabric. But pear girls with smaller busts, be mindful that the fit will be a bit tricky. On a quick side note, a neat little trick for hiding bra straps with this is to wear a halter bra and pop a small hoop on the inside of either bust so you can tuck your strap into this hoop, which pulls it out of sight!

I had a bit more success with the fit of the pants. I own a pair of the High Waisted Trousers already but I know they have a bit of stretch to them from wear the past few years, so I opted to size up to the XL to play it safe. I’m glad I did. While they fit really well everywhere, the waist is loose. I knew this would be the case when I bought them and once my weight settles a bit more (those who follow me on Instagram know I’m currently in the process of dropping the excess weight I gained over the last 18 months) I’ll get some darts put in the waist. Its an easy fix.

One feature I do love about these trousers is the back zip and elastic in the waistband at the back. It makes them a comfortable fit with a seamless from.  These pants are going to be such a fun pair over summer. These aren’t too thick which means I should be able to wear them in summer without much of a fuss. I’m excited to try and style it with other tops that aren’t orange, as the print allows for such versatility!

These gorgeous tiki pants retail for $88USD which equates to around $115.54AUD, depending on the day and the exchange rate. The Harley top (which comes in a variety of colours) retails for $66USD which equates to around $81.40AUD, depending on the day and the exchange rate. Despite the slight fit issues I absolutely adore this outfit and I cannot wait to wear it more and style the other pieces different ways!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this review lovelies! As always, I’m more than happy to answer any questions you may have in the comments or on my other social media for this review!

Til next time darlings!
