Put some Spring in your summer ~ The Belinda Skirt and Melissa top from Hell Bunny

Hello darlings!

Its summer right now here in Aussieland and its honestly been a scorcher this year. Not only has it been hot but the humidity has been an absolute KILLER! I'm talking sweaty before you even put clothes on after you hopped out of the shower kind of humid. In short, as a pinup, its sucked and I've really been trying to find clothes that are lighter in make to help my skin breath. I was so incredibly excited when Gwynnies got some of the newest Hell Bunny releases in stock, I knew I had to have them in my life!

As I've said before, I'm a sucker for floral prints. I'm also a sucker for pastels. More and more I'm adding pastels to my wardrobe, especially since going blonde because there's just something about being blonde and wearing pastels that I love. I was super excited when my parcel arrived the next day and I was excited to see how pretty this skirt looked in person.

Flowers ~ Pink Rose Double from Daisy Jean Floral Designs
Necklace ~ Blue Beads from Debstar Designs
Brooch ~ Blue Wren Brooch from Erstwilder (discontinued)
Top belt & skirt ~ Melissa top in white, lilac retro belt and Belinda skirt from Hell Bunny bought from Gwynnies
Shoes ~ Halina shoes from Royal Vintage Shoes
So lets start with sizing! I bought the medium skirt which is my regular size in all hell bunny swing skirts. I've never had one that wasn't true to size. The top I bought a medium, worried about the fit but found that it actually had a fair bit of stretch and easily could have sized down. The top actually completely opens, like a jacket zipper at the back which means no smudging make up on it when you try and get it on.

Something to note about the skirt, as a lighter coloured skirt, the creases in this skirt do show up. Not as obviously as a plain coloured skirt but still a fair bit, especially if you sit a lot. I find the patterned fabric does make it not as obvious.

I was so excited when I saw the Melissa top! As a former redhead, I don't have a whole lot of white tops. My hair used to transfer onto my tops and turn them pink, so I'm only now starting to buy more white tops now that I don't have to worry about this transfer happening. I love the versatility of this top, it will be great for wearing with my other pastel skirts. The only downside to this top is that it is quite thin and if you aren't wearing beige undergarments, they will show through the white.

The price of both of these items is very reasonable. $49.95AUD from gwynnies snaps you up this truly gorgeous skirt and the top is all yours for $35.00AUD. For such fun, versatile pieces that BREATH in this warm weather they are definitely worth the investment!

Thank you so much for reading this review! Sorry for not as many photos as usual, it was incredibly warm on my shoot afternoon and I've not been feeling 100%. Happy to answer any questions you may have on these gorgeous pieces!

Til next time darlings!

Spring blooms with the Adelaide Dress by Lindy Bop

I'm an absolute sucker for florals, which is actually kind of funny in its own way. Let me explain as there are certain things the interwebs doesn't know about this pinup. So basically, I don't like dirt...kind of like I don't like dust. The texture on my skin of either really used to upset me growing up (I can adult a bit better now days so its not as bad) and I was born into a family that was very big on gardening. So I never really appreciated gardens or flowers in my youth because I was too busy hiding in my room with a book from my mother so she wouldn't ask me to help her in the garden lol! Thankfully now days she knows not to ask.

Flowers ~ Blue Double From Daisy Jean Floral Designs
Brooch ~ Erstwilder Little Lockhart
Belt ~ Hellbunny Red Retro Belt
Dress ~ Adelaide Dress from Lindy Bop
Shoes ~ From Nude Stilettos
But in my adulthood I've come to be able to appreciate gardens and namely flowers for their beauty. My wardrobe does bust with quite a few floral patterns of varying types and I run a floral hair flower business. So I guess you could say the love got serious. My last purchase for myself in 2015 was this gorgeous Adelaide Dress from Lindy Bop, which I got on sale and since its still on sale is one I thought I'd share! The colour scheme isn't like anything else I own and I've really wanted to try new things with my fashion choices in the last few months so this one seemed a good choice!

The fit for this dress is pretty good. I got the 12. Its a bit firm on the arms atm but fits perfectly everywhere else. The length is also a little bit shorter than what I am used to as well, but for summer this is proving to definitely be a good thing! Its slightly looser than what I normally wear on the waist (without a belt) which does allow for a fair bit of airflow which does help to keep you cool.

And its a total steal at $43.50 with shipping! Also, if you love my amazing yellow shoes, you can read my previous blog on them by clicking here!

Just short and sweet today. I'm busy running around getting next weeks photos all ready for you! I hope you are all as excited as I am for even more reviews!

Til next week!

My growing 1940's obsession

1940s is a style that I've talked about a LOT this year, despite it never really popping up in any of my interests before. I'd never given much thought to the 1940's til I started seeing some of the amazing authentic vintage ladies online and slowly a bit of an obsession grew, especially around hats! Oh my god, my love for vintage 1940s hats is honestly incredible and its definitely something I am hoping to explore more in 2016.

While I've been struggling to find true 1940s vintage in my size, purely due to my large hip size, I have been delighted to find that there are some repro brands making some amazing 1940s inspired items recently and I knew I needed to get myself some! I thought today I'd review one of my favorite 1940s style sets I bought that I feel a bit like I'm currently living in and in love with.

The Heather blouse, retro belt in red and black Nell Pants from Hell Bunny, all available from Gwynnies in Australia. So why do I love this set? Well, Hell Bunny has been bringing out some INCREDIBLE 1940s inspired pieces! like I'm talking dresses, shirts, skirts and pants. I've been watching swing pants from afar and after buying the pair in navy, I took the plunge and bought the black. When Gwynnies stocked the Heather blouse I knew I needed it to match! Firstly the pants!

I normally size up in anything that is tight on the pants but there is an incredible amount of room in these and I was fine in a medium, a large would have been HUGE! These pants are incredibly comfortable and incredibly versatile. If you have a bit of a tummy like me, these pants are also incredible because the zip is in the front and the panel helps them to sit well. I've worn them in warm weather and cool and they work in both, which is awesome! I honestly cannot recommend these pants enough!

The Heather Blouse is just so darn pretty! The floral pattern of this blouse is so beautiful. The different mix of the colours within the florals means it can be worn SO many different ways. I bought the small, which is my normal blouse size and the fit is spot on. Plus I've worn in two different ways so far and I cannot wait to play more with it! Its such a versatile piece. I love all the different brooches I can wear with it because of the black base colour. For this review I accessorised it with my 'Beauty Queen' Brooch from Lulu and Lipstick which I absolutely adore!

I wear this set a LOT with varying belts, beads, flowers and brooches and each look has a different feel. Its such an amazing set and I honestly cannot recommend it enough! Also the price for pieces that you can wear so many different ways, its incredible.

Outfit Details:

I hope you all love this post and if you have any questions feel free to pop them in the comments!

More coming this week!

The Nell Dress with the Erstwilder Australian Collection

Hello all,

Its review time again and this time I’m reviewing one of my favorite ever Hell Bunny dresses: the Nell dress. I first fell in love with this dress when it was first released a few years ago, but just never got round to purchasing it. When I found it on ebay recently for $30 new, I knew I had to bite the bullet and make it mine.  I’ll be talking about the fit, quality and styling of this gorgeous 1940’s inspired number!

Quality and fit

The Nell dress is very similar to the Madden dress in fabric (click here for my Madden dress review) is quite thin. It’s made of Polyester, which means it doesn’t have much stretch to it but it does sit very nicely on. It also means that it’s very easy to dress up for winter with cadigans and a petticoat or dress down for summer. I bought the Medium, when ideally I could have sized down to a small. I found it to be very roomy in the shoulders and bust which can make it a bit more bust showy than I’d like to wear. The 1940’s shape to this dress is extremely figure flattering and the black velvet detailing along the collar truly compliments the green of the dress. I found it to be well made, with no fraying or issues in the structure and the zip hasn’t snagged.

Styling

Being a 1940’s style dress, I tried to stick to a more authentic  1940’s styling with this dress. For this shoot I matched it with my Black/Cream Ida’s as I felt the worked best with the darker colourings. I also kept the brooch simple and opted to pay ode to my Australian Heritage by wearing the Margarie Magpie brooch from the Erstwilder Australiana Collection. I missed out on Marge in February when she sold out but was lucky enough to snap her up during a restock. I chose not to wear any hair accessories for this shoot but if I was to wear flowers I’d go a black or a deep red.

I truly love this dress and I’m so glad its finally in my wardrobe! This dress is a fantastic addition for someone who is a lover of the 1940’s era and the darker colors have made it a much loved winter edition in my wardrobe!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this review!

Til next time!

Much love!
