I'm dreaming of a white Christmas ~ The Voodoo Vixen Bernadette Dress

Living in Australia, you can kind of feel a bit out of tune with the rest of the world when Christmas rolls around. The Northern Hemisphere, in the throws of winter is for the most part sharing their winter Christmas posts of sweaters and mittens and snowmen, warm fires and snow angels. I’ve always dreamed of a white Christmas thanks to the media forever showing Christmas as winter. However, the reality here in Australia is very different. Most of our Santas used in adverts feature board shorts and thongs. Summer is sweltering hot, I normally swim or play cricket with my family and avoid the dreaded sunburn! It seems, without travelling abroad, a white Christmas could never be mine.

When Voodoo Vixen brought out the Bernadette dress, I knew I had to have it and I was thrilled they felt the same way too. I felt this dress would be the perfect way to throw some white Christmas vibes on an Australian Christmas without dying in the heat. When it arrived I was thrilled to find that the snow flake detailing as just as perfect in person as it looked online and instantly knew this dress would be a much loved addition to my wardrobe!

The Bernadette dress is made up of two layers, giving it a soft floaty feel. The underneath is a thin strap black dress, which has then been overlaid with a sheer black layer that features the snowflake embroidery. The dress features a centre back zip with a button closure at the top. A sweatheart neckline is present in the black underdress which is visible through the sheer upper layer. The sheer layer though allows this dress to be a bit more on the modest side, which for me makes it ideal to dual as a work dress.

The wearing of this dress I found incredibly comfortable. Its very flowy, there is some stretch in the fabric and it sits nicely when worn. The sheer top layer wasn’t too warm to wear on a hotter kind of day and I found that the fabric moved nicely when I walked. Wearing this dress to the shops after the photoshoot on the hunt for some lunch, I got a lot of compliments on it. It truly is beautiful in person. Its long enough that I can comfortably wear a petticoat or crinoline with it if I want to and I found this dress to be true to size (I’m wearing this dress in a medium).

The simple design and colours also make this dress a versatile number, which means you aren’t restricted to wearing it just to spread festive cheer!  I accessorized mine with white and two Christmas brooches (because two is better than one!) for the shoot, however I can see a lot of potential to accessorize this dress with a lot of different colours and I’m excited to see what I can come up with it in the next few weeks.

You can definitely expect to see this dress popping up in my outfit of the day photos as it truly is a stunning piece!

Sunflowers in Spring ~ the Bianca Dress from Voodoo Vixen

Summer time.

 Its coming.

Here in Australia, we cannot escape it. Summer has only been here for a couple of days and its already sweltering. With a hot hot sun, humidity and a mostly hot wind, I've been on the hunt for versatile dresses I can wear to work or out and about that are comfortable, that breath and that are above all: warm weather friendly. So when another chance to collaborate with Voodoo Vixen rolled around, I knew this dress had to be mine!

The Voodoo Vixen Bianca Dress is incredibly beautiful. I remember when it was release I instantly fell in love with the print. The mix of sunflowers and roses is even more stunning in person. I'm a bit of a flower lover and I've been finding myself REALLY drawn to floral prints recently. So with that in mind, this pretty was soon on its way to me!

So how have I found this dress since having it join my wardrobe? AMAZING! I've worn in a few times now, ontop of on my shoot day and it is SO incredibly comfortable! I've worn it with shape wear and without and the fabric has plenty of stretch and it comfortable to wear with either. My skin was able to breath in it, which for me is important and I didn't get clammy in it on hot days. It features a back zip which is my preference, as I find I get annoyed with side zippers and it did up perfectly. the collar sits nicely on my shoulders and doesn't bunch or become uncomfortable. Its a great place to wear brooches and while its open chest its not too low, which makes it a great dress for wearing in the office.

Something else I love about this dress is the versatility of style. The simple colours and the black background mean you can style it so many different ways. For my shoot I opted for complimentary colours of browns and muted pinks as I felt that with this dress, they were a match made in heaven. This dress does have a shorter skirt length than I'm used to but I've found in the warmer weather this is actually a great thing, as it allows for a bit more air flow around my thighs, reducing thigh rub.

The sizing of this dress is very true to. I bought the medium, which is my regular size in Voodoo Vixen swing styles and it is spot on!

My overall thoughts of this dress is that is a great addition and I can see myself wearing it regularly. If you are a flower lover like me and love a versatile dress, then this is definitely one that I would strongly recommend!

I hope you've enjoyed this review! I'm happy to answer any questions you may all have for me!

Loving Lina ~ A Voodoo Vixen Review

Morning all!

Its review time! Today I'm reviewing the amazing Lina Dress from Voodoo Vixen!
Now days I tend to look for clothes that I can easily make fit into both my work and my personal life. Working full time in an office now days means that my purchases of plunging neck lines and halterneck tops have really faltered in the past 6 months, as they simply aren’t appropriate to my line of work anymore. Sure I still buy them, but nowhere near as regularly as I once did. This gorgeous dress jumped out at me because I felt the simple two tone colour-ways made it a versatile little number! Easy to accessorize because of its block colours and create multiple looks. This pretty has become a much loved piece in my corporate wardrobe!

In this blog post I'll be talking about the fit, quality, my thoughts on this dress and styling!

First Impressions

My first impressions of this dress was the I loved the colour! Growing up, I was such a SUCKER for blue.I wore pretty much exclusively blue from around 12-14 and I’ve been trying to incorporate it back into my wardrobe again. The lighter accents throughout the dress also stood out to me as really pretty touches and the bust line/capped sleeves meant it would be an appropriate work number for me.

The Fit

I found the fit of this dress to be spot on and true to size. I got the medium, which is my most common size in pinup repro clothes and it fit perfectly. I can comfortably wear it with or without my foundation garments but much prefer it with, as it really enhances the cut of the dress. The bustline of the dress I found to be comfortable, it sat high enough I wasn’t showing off my bust, which I feel is more work appropriate. The colour also gave it a more formal feel, lending it for a night out as well as a day at work. The capped sleeves also meant I was able to wear a dress with sleeves without having to worry about it being too tight/cutting in. The length was perfect for wearing with a crinoline for some extra volume as well as without.

Quality

I cannot fault the quality of this dress. The button detailing down the front is perfect, there were no imperfections in the sewing and there have been no issues with the zip. Overall, I have been very impressed with the quality from Voodoo Vixen! And the cuts of their designs are adorable!

Styling

This dress is a styling dream! Being made up of two block neutral colours, it means you can accessorise it in a lot of different colours! I’ve so far worn mine with red, white and pink. I’d love to try it with some other colours too! It can also be worn with patterns as well! For this shoot I opted for the white, as I love how crisp it looks against the dark! My hair flowers are from Daisy Jean’s Signature Rose collection! My brooch is from DeerArrow and my beads are from Debstar Designs! My shoes are the Pin Up Couture cutie heels in pink. My belt can be found on ebay.

If you are after a dress that'll work with most occasions, this one is a goer! I've fallen in love with this dress, its versatility, its functionality and its overall look.

Thats it for me today! If you have any other questions or comments feel free to leave a comment!

I hope you've enjoyed this review. The lovely photos were taken by Russell J Thomas.

Voodoo Vixen Review ~ Cute cats in green hues!

Hello all,

Its review time again and I am so PUMPED for this month’s reviews! There are some awesome ones on their way!

Today I’m reviewing a set that I absolutely love, from the incredibly Voodoo Vixen. This review is about the Voodoo Vixen Amelia Skirt and the matching Clarissa Cardigan, both of which I purchased from Gwynnies along with the Creep Heart Black Cat Brooch.

Now it’s no secret I’m a lover of green and even though I’m no longer a redhead that hasn’t changed. Having such a big difference in size between my upper and lower body, I tend to prefer skirts and tops to dresses as it usually gives me a better fit. So when I saw this adorable skirt while I was browsing Gwynnies separates, I couldn’t resist. A few weeks later when I noticed the matching cardigan, I took the plunge and got that too. This is my first voodoo vixen seperates set and I adore it!

The Skirt:
I found the fit of this skirt to be pretty spot on. I wear a size medium (I average a 30 inch waist) in most open hip skirt styles and this skirt is no different. It has no button fixture, just a zip but I found the width of the waist band meant the zip doesn’t creep or undo with wear, which is something I was initially worried about.

I’ve found this skirt incredibly comfortable to wear. It’s not a full swing but more of an A line cut, which makes it great for work. Its just below the knee length as well means I can wear mine with a small crinoline just for some slight shaping without it peaking underneath.
This skirt is comfortable, doesn’t crease a great deal, has a good quality zip and features the most ADORABLE pattern of black cats sitting under umbrellas. I’d say the green in person is more of a bright olive hued green. I also love the fact that you can team this skirt with so many different colour tops thanks to the skirt really only being 3 colours (green, white and black). And could easily be changed from a winter skirt to a summer skirt.

The Cardigan:
So this is my first Voodoo Vixen cardigan and I must say, it is amazing.  I find cardigans can be a bit hit and miss, as I’ve found some can be scratchy which my skin doesn’t like. I bought the small, which is normal for me in things like cardigans. I have quite small shoulders and find any bigger they tend to slide. This cardigan has quite a lot of stretch so if you have bigger arms, this shouldn’t be an issue.

I found the cardigan comfortable, the buttons didn’t slip or pop and it was relatively warm. I love the matching cat motif on this sweater as it matches the cardigan perfectly.
I love the versatility of these two pieces. They can easily be worn together or separately for create different looks and I find that both of these pieces are ideal items for office appropriate attire, for pinups who work in a more coporate realm.

I accessorized mine with what I felt was the perfect accessory: the Creep Heart Black Cat Brooch. This adorable brooch I felt was just the right fit and stands out beautifully against the green of the Carissa Cardigan. Ella Mobb’s eye for detail and use of layering clear acrylic with printed designs really helps this brooch compliment this look perfectly!

My white bead necklace from Debstar Designs also matched perfectly with this look, thanks to the white detailing in the cats on both the cardigan and the skirt. I love the versatility of the Debstar Design beads and highly recommend them!

I also wore my red flat rose doubles from Daisy Jean, something I’m considering bringing back to the store in the future!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this blog post! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to leave a comment below!

I have more reviews coming this month as well from Voodoo Vixen! My new camera should be arriving sometime next week which will mean makeup reviews, as currently my phone camera just isn’t the right quality!

As always, my photography was by Russell Thomas.

Much love

Voodoo Vixen Allison Dress

Hello all,

So I recently had the pleasure of receiving my first ever VoodooVixen goodies all the way from the UK and I was so excited to see them in person! I’m going to be sharing with you my thoughts on the amazing Allison dress in this blog post, around how I felt about the look, fit, quality and the brand.

So being Winter time in the land of Australia, I was a bit unsure initially of getting the Allison, as I was a little unsure of how I would be able to make her fit into my work life and the current weather, but the pattern was so cute I couldn’t pass it up! When she arrived, I knew I made the right choice and being a lover of layering, I quickly paired her with one of my sheer blouses to make her more winter and work friendly as well as also matching her with cotton long sleeve shirts.

To be honest, I’ve fallen in love with this dress. I sized up to a large, as is my norm with wiggle dresses to accommodate my booty. I’m also a bit weightier than I normally am atm (currently attempting to shed some stress weight I gained earlier in the year) and as such have been a little bit intimidated of giggle styles, but found that I felt comfortable and confident in the Allison dress.

The Look

I love the versatility of the Allison dress. It can so quickly go from being a date dress by wearing with cute heels or a casual look with flats. I like to wear my Allison to work by teaming it with sheer blouses or cotton long sleeve shirts. The print is amazing, lending itself to a range of different accessory options and the soft baby pink background of the fabric gives it a very feminine feel. It does come with a belt of the same print but I prefer to wear mine with other block colour belts.

The fit

While initially I found the fabric to be quite stiff, after a wash and wear it’s become incredibly comfortable and suitable for everyday where. I found the large fit being very true to my measurements, fitting just a tad loose around the bust but being firmer on my lower body. Not being a super tight dress on the legs too I’ve been able to wear my Allison dress with minimal issues around my stockings and welts showing, which is always a win.

The Quality

I was very pleased with the quality of my Voodoo Vixen purchases. They had no fraying at seams and were constructed well. The Allison features a quality invisible zip which I haven’t had issues with after multiple wears and beautiful button detailing at the front of the bust.

Since receiving my first package I’ve also purchased my first Voodoo Vixen skirt which I’ve fallen in love with! You can expect to see a lot more Voodoo Vixen coming into my wardrobe and being reviewed here in the future!

I have more Voodoo Vixen reviews coming your way over the next few months so keep your eyes peeled!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this review!

Til tomorrow

Much love!
