Tartan meets Corporate with the Lori Dress by Voodoo Vixen

Hello all,

Sorry for being so quite this week! I've been a bit under the weather which has really put a dampener on my blogging.

So tonight on the blog I'm bringing you the Lori dress from Voodoo Vixen! For ladies that like a versatile dress, this one is definitely one to add to your wardrobe!

First Impressions

When this dress first arrived was how vibrant the colours on this dress are. Its my second tartan piece and its truly stunning. This dress is of incredible quality. The zip is good quality, the fabric is comfortable to wear with vibrant colours and I couldn't wait to style this dress! I knew instantly as well the fabric would mean that it would be a great dress for work, as it has a corporate feel.

The Fit

I did find the fit of this dress to be a little small. The fabric I found had limited give, especially in the waist, which is something to keep in mine. The tie shoulders however made it very bust friendly, which meant I could either wear my padded bra to bust out for wear one of my vintage bras and it wasn't an issue. The dress length on me came to just below my knees without my crinoline and just at my knees with. The shoulder ties once tied were comfortable to wear and didn't come undone.

Styling

The versatility of this dress leaves it open to SO many options for styling! Being winter here in Australia and working in an office has meant I've been styling mine with sheer blouses of white and black. If I could find a red one, it would also look amazing but I haven't managed that one yet. In summer this style would be great without the undershirt as well, while still looking corporate enough. I also imagine this dress would look cute with a cotton long sleeve shirt, black stockings and heeled boots.

For this shoot, I opted to go with my everyday styling that I've worn to work with this dress. This top is one I bought from Target years ago that I love to team with sleeveless dresses. A red Daisy Jean Signature Rose Double which goes beautifully with the red in this dress. These white Debstar Designs necklace has really become a staple for me when it comes to necklaces. Its simple, comfortable and well made and what pinup doesn't like beaded necklaces. The final touch is the Erstwilder Howling at the Moon brooch, which is such a pretty pop against the tartan. Backseam stockings and a pair of my 1940's styled TUK's finish the look.

For corporate pinup gals, this dress is a must!

As usual, photography by the amazing Russel J Thomas.

I've got more reviews lined up over the next two weeks! More Voodoo Vixen, Starlet Fever and Pin Up Girl Clothing, so keep your eyes out! I'm also going to be reviewing my Redrum Jeffrey Star Velour Lips, my newest Besame colour as well as planning a post on how I set my hair!

Til next week!

Voodoo Vixen Review ~ Cute cats in green hues!

Hello all,

Its review time again and I am so PUMPED for this month’s reviews! There are some awesome ones on their way!

Today I’m reviewing a set that I absolutely love, from the incredibly Voodoo Vixen. This review is about the Voodoo Vixen Amelia Skirt and the matching Clarissa Cardigan, both of which I purchased from Gwynnies along with the Creep Heart Black Cat Brooch.

Now it’s no secret I’m a lover of green and even though I’m no longer a redhead that hasn’t changed. Having such a big difference in size between my upper and lower body, I tend to prefer skirts and tops to dresses as it usually gives me a better fit. So when I saw this adorable skirt while I was browsing Gwynnies separates, I couldn’t resist. A few weeks later when I noticed the matching cardigan, I took the plunge and got that too. This is my first voodoo vixen seperates set and I adore it!

The Skirt:
I found the fit of this skirt to be pretty spot on. I wear a size medium (I average a 30 inch waist) in most open hip skirt styles and this skirt is no different. It has no button fixture, just a zip but I found the width of the waist band meant the zip doesn’t creep or undo with wear, which is something I was initially worried about.

I’ve found this skirt incredibly comfortable to wear. It’s not a full swing but more of an A line cut, which makes it great for work. Its just below the knee length as well means I can wear mine with a small crinoline just for some slight shaping without it peaking underneath.
This skirt is comfortable, doesn’t crease a great deal, has a good quality zip and features the most ADORABLE pattern of black cats sitting under umbrellas. I’d say the green in person is more of a bright olive hued green. I also love the fact that you can team this skirt with so many different colour tops thanks to the skirt really only being 3 colours (green, white and black). And could easily be changed from a winter skirt to a summer skirt.

The Cardigan:
So this is my first Voodoo Vixen cardigan and I must say, it is amazing.  I find cardigans can be a bit hit and miss, as I’ve found some can be scratchy which my skin doesn’t like. I bought the small, which is normal for me in things like cardigans. I have quite small shoulders and find any bigger they tend to slide. This cardigan has quite a lot of stretch so if you have bigger arms, this shouldn’t be an issue.

I found the cardigan comfortable, the buttons didn’t slip or pop and it was relatively warm. I love the matching cat motif on this sweater as it matches the cardigan perfectly.
I love the versatility of these two pieces. They can easily be worn together or separately for create different looks and I find that both of these pieces are ideal items for office appropriate attire, for pinups who work in a more coporate realm.

I accessorized mine with what I felt was the perfect accessory: the Creep Heart Black Cat Brooch. This adorable brooch I felt was just the right fit and stands out beautifully against the green of the Carissa Cardigan. Ella Mobb’s eye for detail and use of layering clear acrylic with printed designs really helps this brooch compliment this look perfectly!

My white bead necklace from Debstar Designs also matched perfectly with this look, thanks to the white detailing in the cats on both the cardigan and the skirt. I love the versatility of the Debstar Design beads and highly recommend them!

I also wore my red flat rose doubles from Daisy Jean, something I’m considering bringing back to the store in the future!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this blog post! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to leave a comment below!

I have more reviews coming this month as well from Voodoo Vixen! My new camera should be arriving sometime next week which will mean makeup reviews, as currently my phone camera just isn’t the right quality!

As always, my photography was by Russell Thomas.

Much love

Transitioning from red to blonde ~ a summary by Miss Ruby Rabbit

Hello all,

I've recently made a change and gone blonde!

And thought I'd share the post that the lovely Miss Ruby Rabbit did about how we achieved my new look!

"Ive had a lot of questions on Saturdays transformation on the lovely Miss Osiria Rose from red to blonde. So here is a little run down on how we worked together to get the result pictured.

We usually bleach and then apply a Directions brand red to achieve Osiria's trademark red hair. But as she would like to do more swimming the red was no longer practical for her lifestyle. I got her to shampoo the week before every day prior to our appointment with head and shoulders anti dandruff shampoo to help with some colour fade. All but the day before. (Never shampoo the day before as it will open up the pores in your scalp and make you more prone to bleach sensitivity)

Our first salon step was to use a colour reducer. These smell terrible but ive found them effective at reducing these direct dyes. We then bleached her roots and then ran the bleach through her ends. I followed up with a Nak amonia free toner in a beige to make the result more natural.

Osirias hair is very resistant and was very responsive to the bleach. We achieved a good result first go but still have a few patches of pink at the back .
Always have these things done professionally.

Things to remember are that Osiria's hair is short so is much healthier than say older hair. Her hair is also coarse and resistant. If you're thinking if a change talk to your salon professional about your options and the best way to keep your hair in good condition. Osiria will be using NAK professional products to maintain the health and look of her hair. We also used Luscious Locks setting spray by me and wet set for styling. Osiria's hair is very reluctant to hold curl so this is the perfect product for her.
Im available by appointment at Retrobilia Boutique in shellharbour."

I cannot wait to bring you more posts as a blonde bombshell!
