Like a bad girl should ~ Vixen Lipstick Print skirt by Vixen by Micheline Pitt

If you’re part of the online pinup scene and you’ve been watching your feeds, no doubt you will have seen the amazing designs Vixen byMicheline Pitt popping up around the place. With a tag line of ‘Good things for bad girls” her designs are sassy, sexy and will definitely turn heads. I didn’t find much appeal personally in the gathered skirts, as now days I’m leaning more and more towards favouring more A-Line styles as I can’t wear petticoats…the wiggle styles definitely caught my eye. Now as a pear girl, wiggle skirts are normally a LOVE HATE relationship. I generally have to give up a firm waist band to allow for my hips, which means I’d then have to get it altered (but I’m lazy so I generally just don’t buy skirts!).  But, I took a chance as I loved the print and was so excited when it arrived and it fit straight out of the wrapping. Needless to say, I was a little excited!

Red Scarf ~ Red Nylon Scarf from Daisy Jean Floral Designs
Earrings ~ Hollywood hoops from Retro Resins
Halter Top ~ Black halter from Swell Dames on Etsy
Brooch ~ War paint brooch by Vixen by Micheline Pitt purchased from Vintage Pip
Skirt ~ Vixen Lipstick Print Pencil Skirt by Vixen by Micheline Pitt purchased from Natasha Marie Clothing
Shoes ~ Red velvet pumps from Marco Giani
I ummed and ahhed about this skirt for ages, simply for the reason the primary colour was white. As a curvy gal I find there are colours we are subconsciously conditioned to steer clear of because of how they will make us look (that notion normally being a negative). So, I kept adding it to my cart…removing it. Thinking about it and talking myself out of it. Finally I took the plunge and just added it to my layby with Natasha Marie and conceded that if I didn’t like it, at least I could find it a new home with someone who would. After paying off my layby, my parcel from Natasha Marie arrived quickly afterwards and I was surprised by how much I loved the print when I saw it in person. The white is super crisp (not something to wear when you’re eating out ladies!!!) and the art really does pop due to the simple red and black colourings. I ordered an XL, basing it off my hip measurements and was still a little unsure holding it up as to if it would fit. That all changed when I got home

This skirt is made in the US and you can definitely tell. The quality is top knotch and it feels sturdy and well made. The outside fabric is cotton stretch satin, meaning it will mould and fit to your curves and that it has a bit of give. The inside is lined in the softest Stretch Silky Charmeuse. I found as a curvy gal this really helped me to shimmy into it and wear it comfortably! I got home and slipped into it, sans foundation garments and was incredibly excited to find it fit perfectly on my body as it was. I may have done a slight happy dance around the house (and possibly put another one of these fab skirts in a different pattern on layby with Natasha Marie) as this is not something that happens a great deal and it was exciting to find a skirt that was off the ‘rack’ that just fit.

The versatility of this skirt is also a big win. Why have an outfit that can only do one thing when it can do both! I spent a LOT of my time at work (38 hours a week roughly) which means I buy 99% of my clothes now days with work in mind. I like items that are versatile and this skirt ticked all the boxes. Depending on what I accessorize it with, I can take it from sassy bad girl to corporate appropriate. The print isn’t something that isn’t workplace friendly and pairing it with a blouse or top that is a bit more reserved makes for a fabulous work outfit. To take it into ‘bad girl’ realm with halter style tops, low cut tops and sassy accessories.  For this review I went sassy, as its not something I get to play with a whole lot now days! A black halter top I forgot I found, her War Paint pin at its centre and red pumps made for a sassy look indeed!

Another thing I love about this skirt is that I have the option to wear it with foundations or without. It’s not something I necessarily need to lace for, which will definitely make it easier to wear as summer approaches. For this review, I opted to not wear foundations to help celebrate my natural shape in a white skirt, something I certainly never thought would happen. I know it can be difficult in the world today but try not to let people dictate what you can and can’t wear. If you like it, rock it. If you want to wear it, wear it. Please remember that you are amazing and you can rock whatever you want to.

I bought my Vixen skirt from Natasha Marie for $114.95AUD as I was able to layby. These retail in the Vixen store for $101.14AUD + postage so Natasha’s was a great bargain, especially since my postage was free due to my total layby amount (I also got the throwing shade shirt). Natasha also has a rewards point system too, so if you shop regularly it’s great for a little discount.

I hope you’ve all enjoyed this blog post as much as I’ve enjoyed putting it together. I’ve got some more vixen goodies coming to my blog soon so keep your eyes peeled.

Til next time darlings!
